Myths abound when it comes to CBD oil being used as a treatment for chronic pain. Many think CBD oil is addictive or unsafe when, in fact, joint, muscle and nerve pain can be effectively and safely treated with our proprietary blend of CBD oil under the care of Dr. Quinby at Quinby Orthopedics.

What is CBD oil?

CBD oil, or cannabidiol oil, is a chemical extracted from the marijuana plant and is reported to have a pain relieving quality. In our proprietary blend, organic CBD is added to the carrier oil, Sacha Inchi, sourced straight from the Amazon. This combines to create a powerful pain relieving oil that can be applied to painful joints and muscles. It is available in childproof bottles.

Myth #1: CBD oil makes you high

Since CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant, people assume it may cause intoxication, or a high.1 But that component is tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which is not present in this high quality blend of CBD oil. If obtained from other, untrustworthy sources, CBD oil may contain a mixture of THC which then would produce a psychoactive quality.2

Myth #2: CBD oil is unsafe

While research is ongoing, the Food and Drug Administration has approved one form of CBD oil used to treat epilepsy. The pharmaceutical Epidiolex® has been proven effective in treating seizures.2 However, CBD oil is commonly considered a safe treatment for joint pain.3

“While CBD oil is not a one-size-fits-all answer for every source of chronic pain, it is a very helpful alternative when treating many different kinds of joint and muscle pain,” said Quinby Orthopedics’ Dr. Quinby. “After examining you and diagnosing the source of your pain, I will better be able to discuss the options with you in a personalized treatment plan.”

Myth #3: CBD oil is addictive

Without the component THC in the blend, CBD oil by itself is not considered addictive.4 Prescribed opiates, however, are extremely addictive. That’s why CBD presents an attractive alternative to prescription pain relievers.5

“For people suffering chronic pain, CBD oil can be a lifesaver,” said Dr. Quinby. “It does need to be taken under the close supervision of a physician, however.”

Benefits of CBD oil

As a treatment for chronic pain relief, CBD oil offers a safe and effective alternative to over-the-counter pain relievers and prescription pain relievers. While these traditional pain relievers can pose complications over long-term use, such as gastrointestinal or kidney damage, CBD oil has fewer side effects. Under the careful supervision of Dr. Quinby, CBD oil could be an alternative that is helpful in reducing your chronic pain.
